Walnut consists of a family of species found across the globe in North and South America, southern Europe, Asia, and the West Indies. Walnut is a temperate hardwood with an even texture and typically straight grain patterns, although wavy patterns can be found.

American Black cherry is a domestic hardwood with fine texture and straight grain patterns. Cherry is found in the Midwestern and Eastern North America, primarily from Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, and New York.

Yellowheart is a tropical hardwood from Brazil with moderate to fine texture and curving, interlocking grain patterns.

Padauk is a tropical hardwood with moderately coarse texture and straight or slightly wavy patterns. Padauk grows in tropical climates including the South Pacific, India, Indochina, West Africa and even in South Florida.

Osage Orange is a temperate hardwood found in South-central United States and in Argentina. Osage Orange has a medium texture and straight grain pattern. The Argentinian species is darker than those in the United States.
